"There is hope for peace." United Nations Under-Secretary-General Amina Mohammed

"There is hope for peace."

United Nations Under-Secretary-General Amina Mohammed made a statement on her visit to Ethiopia today.

After visiting the war-torn regions of Tigray, Amhara and Afar, he expressed hope for peace, saying "there are fewer conflicts than there were a few months ago."

Talking with Tigray State leaders, Amhara State and federal government officials, Amina Mohammed called for an end to the conflict.

"We are definitely in a better position right now. There are more discussions," she said.

Amina Mohammed said the biggest victims of the Ethiopian war were children and women, adding that comprehensive national consultation was needed to prevent the worst suffering in the society.

"I expect Ethiopians to have the necessary discussions for the result," she said.

During her stay in Ethiopia, Amina Mohammed met with Prime Minister Dr. Abiy Ahmed, President Sahlewokwek Zewde,Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Demeke Mekonnen.

Today, she held talks with Afar Regional State President, Awel Arba, and a few days ago with Dr. Getachew Jember, Vice President of Amhara State.

Amina also traveled to the Tigray region to have discussions with Dr. Debre Tsion Gebre-Michael.

On the other hand: She traveled to the region to discuss the drought situation in the Somali region and hold talks with President Mustafa Mohamed.
